MASIH ingat dengan lagu di atas ? Lagu “I Have A Dream” ini dipopulerkan oleh Westlife. Isinya menceriterakan tentang seseorang yang memiliki “impian” atau cita-cita. Karena cita-citanya tersebut, ia terbantu dalam mengatasi segala persoalan
(I have a dream … to help me cope with anything).

Sebenarnya kata “I Have A Dream” dipopulerkan oleh Martin Luther King, Jr. , seorang pejuang emansipasi di Amerika Serikat. Ia mengemukakan keinginannya akan masa depan dimana orang kulit hitam dan kulit putih hidup dalam harmoni dan sederajat. Sewaktu berpidato pada tanggal 28 Agustus 1963 di depan sekitar 200.000 orang pendukung hak-hak sipil, ia mengucapkan kata-kata sebagai berikut :

“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self- evident, that all men are created equal.”

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

“I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.”

KEMBALI kepada lagu “I Have A Dream” tersebut di atas. Lagu tersebut merupakan lagu “kebangsaan” anak saya, Edmund, 6 tahun. Tiap hari sewaktu di antar jemput pergi dan pulang sekolah, maka lagu tersebutlah yang diputar, bahkan diulang terus dengan menekan tombol REPEAT di tape mobil.

Karena tiap hari mendengarkan lagu tersebut, otomatis lirik lagu tersebut sudah terpatri di dalam ingatan saya. Tetapi, sewaktu membaca postingan dari Joko Susilo mengenai lomba “Stop Dreaming Start Action”, maka pikiran bawah sadar saya terusik. Apa yang salah dengan “dream” atau “mimpi” ? Mengapa kita harus berhenti bermimpi ? Lalu, apakah lagu “I Have A Dream” di atas juga keliru ?

Maka untuk mendapatkan jawaban dari pertanyaan saya tersebut, saya melakukan search di internet dengan keyword “dream”. Dan hasilnya adalah sebagai berikut….

Apa itu "Dream" atau "Mimpi" ?

Menurut kamus Wikipedia, "dream" atau "mimpi" adalah serangkaian gambaran, ide, emosi dan sensasi yang timbul tanpa disadari di dalam pikiran selama tidur tahap tertentu. Isi dan tujuan dari mimpi tidak sepenuhnya dimengerti, walaupun mimpi telah menjadi topik spekulasi dan minat sepanjang catatan sejarah. Penelitian mengenai mimpi disebut oneirologi.

Apakah mimpi seperti yang diartikan di atas yang dimaksudkan pak Joko Susilo ? Tentu bukan demikian maksudnya. Yang dimaksudkan dengan mimpi dalam artikel ini berarti "cita-cita atau
visi yang hendak dicapai".

Make Your Dream Come True

Dari beberapa kata-kata mutiara tersebut di atas dapat disimpulkan bahwa :
1. Mimpi bukanlah merupakan hal yang tabu. Kita harus memiliki mimpi tentang hal yang ingin kita capai. Setiap orang harus mempunyai mimpi. Jangan berhenti bermimpi !
2. Untuk mewujudkan impian kita tersebut kita harus bekerja keras. Tidak ada hasil yang akan dicapai orang yang cuma bermalas-malasan saja. Make your dream come true !
3. Fokus terhadap tujuan yang ingin dicapai. Dengan tetap fokus terhadap tujuan, maka setiap usaha yang kita lakukan akan membantu mencapai tujuan yang kita inginkan. Kita tidak akan melakukan usaha yang melenceng dari tujuan kita.
4. Evaluasi apakah tujuan yang kita inginkan sudah tercapai. Bila belum tercapai, langkah-langkah apa yang belum dilakukan ? Langkah – langkah apa yang harus diperbaiki ? Bila sudah tercapai maka kita boleh mempunyai mimpi yang baru lagi.
